NOIRVEMBER AT SPECTACLE – YEAR 7

Our annual Noirvember marathon returns with another late-night program of (mostly) overlooked film noir gems from decades past. This year’s lineup is hopped up on existential malaise, fatalistic quests for justice (in this world or the next?), and endless cigarette smoke drifting through claustrophobic city streets where time is always running out.

5:00p
****** ** ******* (1949)
We open with a lean, sinister B-picture directed by one of Hollywood’s most prolific and dynamic craftsmen, setting the thematic tone for this year’s slate with a sense of judgment hanging over every frame.

6:00p
***** ****** (1949)
An absurdist, quintessentially noir setup featuring a know-it-all attorney cosplaying as a tough guy. Directed by a regular of The Twilight Zone, this rarity is filled with questionable decision-making and relentless simping.

8:00p
**** ****, **** **** (1949)
A star-studded chamber piece that slips in and out of noir, featuring Hollywood’s most charismatic leads as they navigate the treacherous reveries of postwar Manhattan. This lavish and shadowy melodrama induces a particularly glamorous descent into the noir-pilled psyche.

10:00p
*** ******* *** (1951)
The evening returns to a familiar beleaguered profession with an underseen curio that refuses to go quite where you expect it to. Directed by a studio veteran who would later put the King behind bars, this noir is unfairly forgotten by history and ripe for rediscovery.

12:00a
**** **** (1947)
We conclude this year’s Noirvember with a fatalistic low-budget noir steeped in the corruption and cynicism of postwar Los Angeles: a fitting final plunge into the shadows and abyss.
